In our years
as a custom gun shop and retail outlet we've had the
opportunity to see most different types of rifle scopes come and go. We try
not to put down our customer's choice in optics but the plain and simple truth
is that some scopes are better than others. And that may be the understatement
of the century.
Indeed, if
you're going to spend several thousand dollars on a custom rifle it makes
very little sense to put a cheap scope on top of it. In light of that
we like to recommend to our customers simply this: use quality optics.
You won't regret it if you do and you will regret it if you don't.
The following
is a list of some of the optics that we carry and why we recommend them.
Our store front does carry other brand names but we don't recommend putting
most of them on top of our custom rifles.
Nightforce
Precision Optics

Nightforces
debut of two new riflescopes was met with great enthusiasm at the 2001
Shot Show in New Orleans. The industry success of the companys
NXSNightforce Extreme Scopeline of advanced tactical riflescopes
opened the way for two hybrid riflescopes intended for long range and
benchrest applications.
The NXS 8-32x56
and 12-42x56 marries the extreme design features of NXS with the superior
light managment and variable power of Nightforces proven Precision
Benchrest Series. Shooters will appreciate the 8-32x and 12-42x variable
magnifications and true .250 moa adjustable target turrets.
Jeff Huber,
Vice President of Nightforce said, These two hybrids expand the
NXS line to five models. The response to NXS has been far reaching. The
first three models were designed to meet the needs of law enforcement
and military snipers. Hunters and target shooters immediately recognized
that NXS exceeded industry standards for design and performance in the
field and at the range. Huber continued, Nightforce had really
written a new chapter in riflescope technology with NXS, and shooters
called for a scope with all the technology-rich innovations of NXS and
the magnification of Nightforces Precision Benchrest Series.
Nightforce
has left competitors stunned. NXS offers shooters precision optics and
scope features that perform under the most extreme conditions. NXS challenges
other manufacturers to rethink riflescope technology.
Leupold

Leupold has
consistently gotten more expensive over the years but I believe it is
in correlation to an increase in their quality as well. Most of our customers
use Leupold - they are fine scopes - and you will find a scope from them
for almost any application. From fixed powers to the new LPS series Leupold
delivers accuracy, consistency and variety.
In the past
we've seen more Vari XIII's on our custom guns than most others but Leupold's
new VX II series may soon take the lead. The VXII offers click adjustments
and better lenses than the old Vari XII did. The compact series has also
been featured on many of our lightweights.
Zeiss

Since moving
its operation to the US, Zeiss has become an affordable high quality
optic. Their Conquest series starts at a little under $1000.00 Canadian
and is quickly becoming one of our more popular scopes.
Kahles and Swarovski

Both are
European scopes and both belong to the same company (in fact Swarovski
owns Kahles). Swarovski is probably the clearest and sharpest of all
the high end scopes and, for their price, we sell a reasonable amount
of them. Khales is not far behind in quality and retails in around the
same price range as Zeiss' Conquest series. Kahles also produces the
TDS rangefinding reticle in a 3-9 power for around $1100.00 Canadian.
You will see this scope featured as an option on our 'Classic Hunter'
in the rifle packages section of this site.
Bushnell

I know a
lot of folks will scoff at the name but Bushnell's Elite 4200 series
is worth mentioning if for no other reason than their pricing. This model
is about the only scope from this company I'd recommend putting on one
of our rifles and for their dollar value they are a fairly good quality
optic. They also have the added bonus of having 'Raingaurd' on the lenses
to help keep moisture from blocking your line of sight. The downside
is they are pretty bulky and not very well suited to lightweight rifles
in general.
There are others as well but these are the scopes we have had the most experience
with. If you are interested in any of them give as a call and we'd be happy
to discuss pricing and delivery with you.
